President's Message
Greetings,
Thank you for your continued support on my re-appointment
as President for another year. I want to thank the Executive and the many volunteers for
their efforts in making this a very successful
rally season.
This year the Chapter
sponsored 4 rallies, a 25% increase over past
years. Those in attendance expressed
delight in the sites chosen and raved the success of
each event. The credit goes to our volunteer hosts. Your Executive heard your concerns on the rising costs of rallies. This year
we reduced costs by over 30% from
previous years.
We introduced PayPal, a program allowing
members for the first time the option to register and pay for
their rallies
online with a credit card. Many chapters have
contacted us to extend this benefit to
their members too.
We close this year with a
full slate of rallies confirmed for 2012. Please check the rallies page on our website
www.fmca.ca for
details.
Until next spring, drive safe and be well.

Gananoque Rally Report - It was a Pig Out!
A
rousing success with accolades to our hosts, John &
Jackie Peterson.
Here is their report in part, the
full report is online at www.fmca.ca.
Attendance was the best we have had in some
time. There
were 20 coaches on site by Thursday evening … an
excellent “early bird” turnout. By Friday there were
27 family memberships represented, three of which were
new members.
The facilities were outstanding with smooth, level parking
and choice of
hard top or grass. The dining hall was large,
well equipped and very clean. The kitchen and bar areas
are excellent. We served a total of 225
meals with “seconds” and “thirds” available. Pot luck salads and deserts were decadently wonderful.
Friday
supper was a great selection of party foods, meatballs,
spaghetti and sauce. Saturday breakfast was eggs,
oven
baked ham and hash browns with juice and coffee. Thanks
to our sponsors the coffee pots were bottomless all
weekend.
An
“egg-stra” thank you to Burnbrae Farms of Lyn, On.
who made all the breakfast eggs so easy.
Special
thanks to Chris from Rick Orr’s in
Brockville
who ran the open fire charcoal
BBQ roaster for the 102 pound pig all Saturday afternoon. Chris had a standing room only
audience.
Gananoque
has lot of things to see and do and places to shop and
relax and quite a few took advantage of those
attractions … in between digesting.
The Town of
Gananoque
appreciated us holding our rally
there enough that the Town has invited us to return for
another rally next summer.
(June Canada Day Rally - Register in 2012)
A
most heartfelt thank you to all those businesses and
individuals who helped sponsor and support this year’s
Gananoque Pig Out and in particular to, METRO
Supermarkets, 1000 Islands RV, No Frills Supermarket,
Kingston RV Center, Price Chopper Grocery Stores, and
the 1000 Islands Casino.
We
managed to do all this for $65 per two occupants
including coach parking. Looking forward to Gananoque
next year.
Many
thanks to John & Jackie Peterson for their report
and photos. Extra photos also contributed by Eileen
& Gerry Breen. Many more and enlarged photos are
available for viewing on the Chapter website -

Tribute to an
Volunteer Couple
Shortly
after the first TIV rally for the 2011 season, the TIV
Executive were informed their VP Canada - Stan Williams'
health was poor and his doctor had ordered him into palliative
care resulting in Stan submitting his resignation. But,
this did not deter him. Like a true volunteer, he
continued his support and with the aid of his wife Pierrette,
hosted the next TIV rally in Ottawa. That in itself is
admirable but the urge to contribute to the Chapter did not
stop there. In addition to attending the rest of the TIV
rallies in the 2011 season, Pierrette Williams stepped up and
assumed Stan's role as VP - Canada. What more can be
said about these selfless actions but a sincere thank
you and our hope for the best in the future. If
all volunteers were this generous and selfless we would be a
much richer society today.

We're always looking for
new rally sites from which to explore. Got one
in mind? This
is where you can make a valuable contribution to your
Chapter - recommend a site to a VP.
That's it! Farms, parking lots, rural &
urban sites, old quarries, race
tracks and fairgrounds are abundant offering new sights and
experiences for every RV'er. It takes no
experience, just an email. Step up
-
contact a VP to discuss a site today! We know you have
a spot in mind.

Two
New VP's Elected
Last month,
at the final TIV rally in Massena, annual elections took
place to complete the Chapter Executive. Normally,
the senior VP - USA would have moved into the Presidency
but as reported earlier, both VP's resigned this
year. Chapter bylaws allow a President to sit for
two years and as a result, Austin Slack was re-affirmed
as President for another year.
Pierrette
Williams was elected as VP - Canada. Jim Durham was
elected as VP - USA. Our thanks goes to them for
their ongoing contribution to the Chapter. All
remaining positions were acclaimed.

Craft Group
Update
Submitted
by Nancy Grant
We are
travelling in the western part of the continent for the
next couple of years and unable to attend the TIV craft
sessions. I will miss this but, the good work the gals
do must go on. Jackie Peterson has volunteered to
preside over these sessions in my absence and will
update the craft section of the website and this
newsletter. My thanks to her for the support she
has given me and best wishes are extended to all my
crafty friends.
Eileen Breen was kind enough to forward to me a stitch
pattern for Chemo Caps. It can be found on the
Chapter website at http://www.fmca.ca/crafts-chemocaps.pdf
. If you do not access the internet, visit a local
library to print a copy or contact Eileen or
Jackie. I'm sure they will print and mail a copy
to you.

Massena
Rally
Contributed by Christine Charney
Barbara &
Kermit Haig hosted a wonderful rally on September 10-12 at the
Norfolk Firehall which was an excellent location. The
Haigs were provided with ample assistance by Alice & John
Foy. Sixteen coaches attended. We were sorry that
five others who had wanted to come - the Vaniers, Youngs,
Stokers, Grigaitises & one more bus were forced to cancel
due to health & medical reasons. A number of the
rigs arrived early on Thursday and enjoyed going out for
dinner together. The Friday Meet & Greet was a happy
get together with enough nibbles to make supper unnecessary
for some people!
Saturday morning the breakfast at Ponderosa was a treat for
all who participated. Jackie Peterson conducted a craft
session on Saturday afternoon while downtown Massena closed a
block of the main street to traffic for a sidewalk & craft
sale & various attractions. Our potluck dinner on
Saturday was magnificent with an assortment of delectable
dishes. The cake was decorated in a tribute to the 10th
anniversary of 9/11 & a moment of silence was observed.
Our Sunday morning breakfast of doughnuts was tasty. It
was followed by an executive meeting and our general meeting
which included the successful election of our executive for
the coming year. The weather cooperated favourably with
lovely sunny days. Our hearts were warmed by the fact
that Stan Williams was able to come & be with us.
It was a pleasure for all of us to see Stan & spend some
time with him.
Photos submitted with thanks to John Peterson.

Humor
Corner
Contributed by Audrey
Beedie
A woman and man are involved in a car accident on a
snowy, cold morning; it's a bad one. Both cars are totally demolished, but amazingly neither
of them is hurt. After
they crawl out of their cars, the man starts yelling about
women drivers. The woman says, 'So, you're a man. I'm a woman. Wow, just look at our cars!
There's nothing left, but we're unhurt. This must be a
sign from God that we should be friends and live in
peace for the rest of our days.'
Flattered, the man replies, 'Oh yes, I agree completely,
this must be a sign but you're still at
fault...women shouldn't be allowed to drive.'
The woman continues, 'Here's another
miracle. My car is completely demolished but this bottle
of wine didn't break. Surely God wants us to drink and celebrate our good fortune. She hands the
bottle to the man.
The man nods his head in agreement, opens it and drinks
half the bottle and then hands it back to the woman. The
woman takes the bottle, puts the cap back on and hands
it back to the man.
The man asks, 'Aren't you having any?'
The woman replies, 'No. I think I'll just wait for the
police.'
