A
rousing success with accolades to our hosts, John &
Jackie Peterson. Here is their report.
Attendance
at the
Gananoque rally was the best we have had in quite some
time. Several coaches arrived on Wednesday and enjoyed
an extra day of playtime at the Gananoque OLG Casino.
Several went back there for an extra day or so after the
rally, too.
There
were 20 coaches on site by Thursday evening … an
excellent “early bird” turnout. By Friday there were
27 family memberships represented, three of which were
new members who joined
TIV at this rally.
The facilities at the Gananoque arena were outstanding
… lots of smooth, level parking space with a choice of
hard top or grass surface. The dining hall is large,
well equipped and very clean. The kitchen and bar areas
are excellent as they needed to be to feed and serve so
many. We served 56 people a total of 225
meals with “seconds” and “thirds” available for
all. The pot luck salads and deserts that everyone
brought were decadently wonderful.
Friday
supper was a great selection of party foods, meatballs,
spaghetti and sauce. Saturday breakfast was eggs, oven
baked ham and hash browns with juice and coffee. Thanks
to our sponsors the coffee pots were bottomless all
weekend.
An
“egg-stra” thank you to Burnbrae farms of Lyn, On.
who made all the breakfast
eggs so easy.
Special
thanks to Chris from Rick Orr’s in
Brockville
who ran the open fire charcoal
BBQ roaster for “the Pig” all afternoon on
Saturday. Chris had quite an audience. One of the great
parts about that kind BBQ is the “crackling” … all
those crunchy bits of skin and outside. When Chris
brought all the carved meat up to the kitchen I wondered
why the there was no “crackling” in the trays.
Little did I know that Chris had a standing room only
audience down at the BBQ who waiting to get every piece
of it as he carved it. When you figure that it was a 102
lb pig, I guess that alone speaks to how good Chris’
BBQing was.
Sunday breakfast was more of the same … eggs, baked
ham, sausages, pancakes and yummy
maple syrup. All in all, no one went away hungry
(or thinner) this weekend.
Gananoque
has lot of things to see and do and places to shop and
relax and quite a few took advantage of those
attractions … in between digesting.
The Town of
Gananoque
appreciated us holding our rally
there enough that the Town has invited us to return for
another rally next summer.
(June Canada Day Rally - Register in 2012)
The
Town of
Gananoque
has one of its largest tourist
events of the summer season on Canada Day weekend with
events of all sorts and participation by all the local
merchants.
While we have been given our choice of weekends, TIV has
been specifically invited to hold our 2012 rally on
Canada
day weekend and we have accepted.
A
most heartfelt thank you to all those businesses and
individuals who helped sponsor and support this year’s
Gananoque Pig Out and in particular to, METRO
Supermarkets, 1000 Islands RV, No Frills Supermarket,
Kingston RV Center, Price Chopper Grocery Stores, and
the 1000 Islands Casino.
We
managed to do all this for $65 per two occupants
including coach parking, and after all the food and fun,
come out $197 to the good. Looking forward to Gananoque
next year.
